The Barriers in the European Integration Process
The conference began with a very interesting lecture of Professor Giandomenico Majone from the European University in Florence - "European Union and its critics." He pointed on the paradox of the coexistence of democracy deficit in the EU institutional structure and elites, who want to avoid the assessment of the effects of functioning of the EU for citizens expressed in referendums. Voice of the people is important not only for the legitimacy of the EU, but also to improve its functioning.
Next lecturer prof. dr hab. Barbara Mikołajczyk from the Silesian University and mgr Hanna Kelm presented the various activities of countries such as France, Germany the United Kingdom according to immigrants. In many countries, initially immigrants were treated as a cheaper labor .Although EU countries have different approach to the issue of immigrants and carry out different policies, the problem of their integration with the public, the lower level of education is visible in the most developed of the EU countries. Dr Czesław Kłak presented shortly legal aspect of decision-making process in the EU institutions. The next speaker - prof. Życzkowski from the Jagiellonian University showed, in a very intelligible way, the mechanism of voting in the European Council.
